While the Sterling Hill Mines shows how minerals came out of the ground, Franklin Mineral Museum tells how they got there in the first place.  The Franklin Museum offers a vast display of minerals from all over the world and artifacts from American, Olmec, and Mayan Indians.  The one hour tour moves quickly around the museum, highlighting the best specimens, with lots of interaction with the children.  There is also a room of florescent rocks and a walk through a replica of a mine.   In back of the museum is a rock dump where you can go prospecting, but you have to bring your own equipment (hammers, pickaxes, shovels & bag).  This is a nice complement to the Sterling Hill Mines, but we recommend visiting them on different days.

Experience baseball before big salaries and egos.  For a fraction of the cost and hassle of the Yankees and Mets, cheer the NJ Cardinals, a Class A farm club from the St. Louis Cardinals system.  Every seat is terrific and you get campy, between inning entertainment too.  If the skylands is too far, consider the NJ Jackals, playing in Yogi Berra Stadium at Montclair State University (click for link).
