Simulated space missions to the moon, to Mars, or to a comet are definitely a special way to celebrate one's birthday or important life event for ages ten and older.  Civilian "astronauts" may schedule space flights for their group, scouts may work towards badges and middle schoolers experience summer camp every July. Public missions are held once a month. The Center's simulators, designed by NASA, have the look and feel of a real Mission Control and space craft. During the school year, public and private schools may schedule an educational school trip where students actually perform the tasks in its space simulators.

The lighthouse operated from 1826 until it was closed in 1925. During that period, only one ship ran aground, with no loss of life.   In 1986 restorations were started, and it was opened, along with an exhibit, to the public in 1995.
