This is the best zoo in metropolitan New York and the largest urban zoo in America.  Most of the 4,000 animals roam free in 265 wooded acres of natural habitats.  Many exhibits are organized by area of the world so you can combine a nature lesson with world geography.  Food is available, but you can bring your own; plenty of tables available.

We recommend joining the Wildlife Conservation Society.  For a reasonable annual fee, you get free admission to the Bronx Zoo and the New York Aquarium, plus the Central Park, Queens, and Prospect Park Wildlife Centers.  You also receive free parking passes, attraction passes, admission to special member events and subscription to their magazine, making it one of the best deals in New York.

Children's Zoo: Additional ticket but well worth it for little children.
