| Here is NJ’s own diamond in the rough, although they mined zinc not diamonds. Unless you are a geologist, this trip will open your eyes to NJ’s mining past. Walk 1/4 mile of mine tunnels, see the equipment, and learn the techniques used here. Guided tour lasts 1.5 to 2 hours but is chock full of interesting information. Our guide came from a mining family and had a genuine love of the subject. Note: Bring a jacket and good shoes as it is 56 degrees and damp all year. Our eight and five year olds were entertained throughout. Nice complement to the Franklin Mineral Museum but we suggest visits on different days. This is one of our top NJ picks! |

Before you go to Williamsburg, come here! Buildings from 1740 to 1870 include apothecary, pottery shed, broom shop, blacksmith, candy shop, gristmill, general store and Methodist Church. Our four year old and two year old girls enjoyed the visit very much. We suggest strategically avoiding the candy shop until after lunch. They also hold concerts, readings, workshops, arts & crafts shows, and holiday events. Visit web site for calendar. The best part of the trip for our kids was the Lenape Indian Village, a short
walk away. We saw open fire cooking, lodge houses, animal skins drying, and a
guide to explain Indian life.
