Residing in a converted, 157 year old church building, the Saddle River Valley Cultural Center is Bergen County's cultural gem for families.  Children's shows are produced in an intimate theatre that seats 140, but feels much smaller so children are up close and personal.  Theatre birthday parties are available, but be sure to book early.  The Cultural Center also offers classes for children in acting, crafts, cooking, chess, drawing, karate, music & science.  Classes and performances are offered for adults too.

Our daughter came here on a school trip and was so impressed she brought back the rest of the family.  Built in 1873, this one room schoolhouse displays its original blackboard, school desks, pot belly stove, school bell, and bathroom.  Its packed with local artifacts from the American Revolution and Civil War periods.  See a weasel and learn the origin of "pop goes the weasel".  Also on display is a Dutch oven, an early 20th century photograph of the location, a bible from 1690, old money, a stove pipe hat, Dutch shoes, doctor's instruments, and farm equipment.
Regrettably, its closed from November through April.
