Drum
Supplies: Large, round oatmeal container (with top and bottom)
 Construction paper-plain or colored
Children’s scissors
Decorating supplies-markers, paints, crayons, stickers
Glue

Cut paper to fit around oatmeal container.  Decorate one side in any desired design.  Once completely dry, glue paper around the outside of the oatmeal container.  Make sure the top is in place and you are ready to drum away.  If you’d like to make drumsticks, cover a cotton ball with a small piece of fabric and wrap it around the end of a pencil, securing with a rubber band.

Maracas
Supplies: Aluminum foil
2 paper cups
Dried beans
Stickers
Tape
Construction paper
Construction paper
Children’s scissors

Put a few beans into one of the cups.  Place the other cup upside down on top of the cup holding the beans.  Tape cups together.  Wrap the cups with aluminum foil.  To decorate, use your stickers and/or glue on cut-out designs made with your construction paper.

Tambourine
Supplies: 2 sturdy paper or Styrofoam plates
Dried beans
Stapler
Masking tape
Paint, markers, stickers for decorating

Take one plate and place a few dried beans on it.  Place the other plate on plate one so that the tops of the plates are facing each other.  Staple them together at the edges.  Cover staples completely with masking tape.  Decorate tambourine using paint, markers and stickers.  Let dry – now you’re ready to shake and tap away!

Whistle
Supplies: Paper towel tube
Paint, markers and stickers for decorating
Wax paper
Rubber band
Scissors

With a pair of scissors, poke evenly spaced holes along the length of the paper towel tube.  Decorate the tube with your supplies, being careful to leave the holes open.  When your decorations have dried, tightly hold a piece of wax paper over one end of the tube.  Wrap the rubber band around it to keep in place.  Listen to your new whistle’s sound by blowing through the uncovered end of the tube.  The vibration of the wax paper makes the noise.  You can also get a variety of sounds by making different whistles.  Just cut other tubes to shorter lengths.
