One of the major cultural attractions of Essex County, The Newark Museum offers changing exhibits, workshops, and children's programs.  The Dreyfuss Planetarium, inside the museum, provides an intimate environment where seasonal sky shows are presented (small fee charged).  A "mini zoo" is home to 100 small animals from major world habitats.  The Junior Gallery has hands-on exhibits and science demonstrations.  The Ballantine House, which is attached to the museum, lets children step back 100 years to see life in the late-Victorian era.

In addition, permanent galleries include collections of paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, oriental art, numismatics, classical art, as well as, the art of Africa, native North & South America, and the Pacific.
