The Challenger Learning Centers have been established in locations around the county to promote science and technology while remembering the Challenger disaster.

The Center offers a variety of programs for children fifth grade and above to experience and learn about space exploration.  These range from one and two hour programs during the week, to overnight "camp-ins" and summer camp.  There is also a week in Florida during July.  Group programs are offered too.

Many easy hiking trails for children that can be completed within 1 hour. Lake for viewing and skipping stones, and camping is permitted.  Snow skiing and instruction is available during the winter.

 


 

USS Ling/New Jersey Naval Museum

Tour the USS Ling, a 312 foot WWII submarine weighing approx 2500 tons, berthed at Hackensack.   See the northeast's only remaining Vietnam War era Patrol Boat Riverine, plus many WWII artifacts.  Group tours, sleepovers, birthday parties available.

Historic house museum that incorporates an 18th century stone house that was visited during the Revolutionary War by George Washington and is the site where Aaron Burr met and married Theodosia Prevost.  Furnishings reflect the late Victorian lifestyle of the Rosencrantz family, its owners for 163 years.

Guided house tours are geared to adults and children.  Events and exhibits are held throughout the year.

Nature trails, waterfowl pond, and gardens.  On display are turtles, snakes, owls and other animals.  The Environmental Center offers educational programs, special exhibits and seasonal events.

Visit the first known public school system in southern Bergen County.  The rent was one peppercorn!  The present building was built in 1893, but the location has been used as a school since 1804.   A trip here can help children appreciate school in a simpler time.  Special events include the Strawberry Festival and the Harvest Festival.
