Secret Message
Supplies: 1 White Crayon
Pastel Water Color Paints
Paint Brush
White Paper

Using the white crayon, adult draws a picture or writes a message on white paper (Example: "I Love You", or a picture of the sun or a house).  Instruct your child to paint two colors of alternate stripes across or up and down the paper to discover the secret message or picture.

Suggestion for two children: Write a riddle on one child's paper and the answer on the other child's paper.  They love working together to figure it out.

Millennium Time Capsule
Supplies: 2-Liter Soda Bottle (empty)
Scissors
Tape
Important Stuff

Cut top off soda bottle with scissors.  Put in objects which have important meaning to your child.  A picture will do if she/he can't part with the object.  Seal top back on with tape.   The whole family can make one!   Mark your calendar to open it on a special day.

Marble Art
Supplies: Pie tin
Marbles
Paint (Tempera paint works well)
Children’s scissors
Paper-plain or colored

Cut out paper in the shape of a circle to fit in the bottom of the pie tin.  Pour small amount of paint (about the size of a dime) in various spots on the paper.  Use one or as many colors as you’d like.  Drop in a handful of marbles and roll them around the bottom of the tin.  When you’re done with your design, wash off the marbles, replace paper, and create again!  (As always, use caution when creating with small objects!  We don’t want our little ones to place these items in their mouths!)

Other painting ideas: For a variety of styles and textures, try painting with feathers, Q-tips, corks or cotton-balls.  Look around your house, you’ll be surprised at all you can find to use instead of a paintbrush!)
